Limited Edition Bronze | Sycamore Seed
As a child, I was captivated by the quiet theatre of sycamore seeds drifting to the ground — those delicate “helicopters” spinning effortlessly on air currents. What appears playful is, in truth, an elegant feat of natural engineering. The slender wing is shaped for survival, designed to travel, land and endure.
Sycamore Seed distils that memory into form.
Rather than reproduce the seed literally, I sought to capture its essence — the elongated wing, the subtle torsion, the sense of suspended movement. The sculpture narrows and rises with quiet tension before resolving into a grounded base. What feels fragile is cast in enduring bronze.
The piece is available from an intimate palm-sized study through to truly monumental editions conceived for private estates, significant garden landscapes and architectural settings. At eight feet in height, the sculpture becomes a confident vertical gesture within the landscape — refined, contemporary and quietly powerful.
Smaller editions are created using the lost-wax process, allowing for exceptional surface detail and patination. Monumental works are produced using sand casting techniques to ensure structural integrity and longevity outdoors. Each sculpture is finished by hand, with careful attention to how light moves across its surface throughout the day.
The monumental Sycamore Seed was unveiled on my award-winning Main Avenue trade stand at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025, where it was presented within a carefully considered planting scheme. In garden settings, private grounds or interior architectural spaces, the sculpture stands as a contemporary bronze statement: a homage to nature’s ingenuity, resilience and grace.
