Limited Edition Bronze | Bronze Pear
My bronze pear sculptures are created through a process that combines traditional sculptural techniques with an intense focus on surface refinement and form. Each piece begins as a clay original, which I model by hand until the proportions and balance feel resolved. From this, a soft plaster negative is taken, allowing a hard plaster positive to be cast. It is this hard plaster form that becomes the true working model.
I then chisel away the outer surface of the plaster to reveal an exceptionally dense interior, which I can then refine to a smooth, glass-like finish. This stage is slow and deliberate, allowing adjustments to be made to the form. The stalk is formed separately, carved from timber using a natural wooden branch, introducing a quiet organic counterpoint to the precision of the body.
Depending on scale, the sculptures are cast either using traditional sand casting for larger works or the lost-wax process for smaller editions. Each finished bronze is then patinated by hand, resulting in a rich russet brown surface that responds beautifully to light.
The pear is a form recognised across cultures, carrying associations of abundance, nourishment, balance and generosity. Its familiarity allows the sculpture to feel immediately approachable, while its refinement rewards closer attention. The pear is also often used to represent longevity, making it a fitting sculpture to commemorate a milestone birthday, anniversary or other significant occasion.
Pear in bronze is realised in exclusive limited editions and available in sizes ranging from 12.2 centimetres in height through to monumental garden works and sizes befitting public spaces. Pieces shown alongside this text range from approximately two to six feet tall and are installed in private gardens in Berkshire, the south of England and the north of Scotland, as well as within gallery environments and refined interior settings.
Each sculpture is signed, dated and individually numbered, and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.Â
