Limited Edition Bronze | Bronze Creation

Bronze Creation egg sculpture by James Parker displayed on a stone plinth in a garden setting
Side view of limited edition bronze Creation egg sculpture by James Parker

Creation takes the form of an egg, universally familiar and it speaks quietly of fragility and containment, of potential and birth. What draws me to this form is its ability to hold so much resonance while remaining visually simple and resolved. It is a sculpture that asks little of the viewer, yet offers depth through contemplation rather than declaration.

The geometry of the egg is deceptively complex with the form revealing itself in different ways. A continuous curve when seen in profile, a more concentrated, focused presence when viewed from the sharper end. From the base, an almost spherical quality, where the hemisphere presents a sense of balance and completeness. These shifts in perception are central to the work, encouraging the sculpture to be experienced slowly and from multiple angles.

This is an inherently tactile piece. Despite the weight and permanence of bronze, the surface invites contact. There is a natural impulse to run a hand across it, to feel its smoothness and temperature, to lift it where scale allows.

In bronze, Creation is positioned on its side, resting as an egg naturally would rather than standing upright. This orientation softens the way the form is encountered. It removes any sense of display or monumentality and instead introduces a quiet intimacy, allowing the sculpture to feel settled and at ease. The decision reinforces the idea of containment rather than presentation, encouraging the viewer to move around the piece and read its geometry through touch and proximity as much as sight.

The bronze version of Creation is modelled by me from first principles. I begin by forming an original in clay, a material that allows easy manipulation. From this I create a soft plaster negative, which is then used as a mould for a hard plaster positive. Once cured, the outer layer is carefully chiselled away, leaving behind a refined plaster form that becomes the pattern sent to the foundry for moulding and casting using the lost-wax process. Working in this way allows me to achieve an exceptionally smooth and exact surface, qualities that are carried through into the finished bronze.

The sculpture shown here carries a traditional penny-brown patina with a deep, warm lustre. Creation is primarily photographed on a white quartzite base in a formal gallery setting, allowing the purity of form and surface to be read clearly. The piece is also shown positioned casually atop a sandstone wall within a landscape setting, where the warmth and texture of the stone sit comfortably alongside the bronze.

One of the images presents the sculpture within a rendered architectural visualisation, offering an impression of how Creation might be experienced at a larger scale, in a landscaped environment, rather than documenting an existing installation.

Bases and finishes can be bespoke and Creation can be realised at a wide range of scales, including monumental versions intended for landscape or architectural settings. It is also available in slate, glass and stainless steel with each material offering a distinct character while remaining faithful to the same core form.
