Limited Edition Bronze | Bud
My fascination with organic geometry often begins at moments of transition, and Bud is rooted in that precise point where potential becomes visible. Suspended between concealment and emergence, the bud holds a quiet tension, a promise of growth, transformation and unfolding energy. In abstracting this form, I was drawn to its simplicity and resilience: smooth, swelling curves that protect what lies within, yet suggest imminent release.
Nature has always been my primary source of inspiration. Its patterns and structures rarely jar; instead, they evoke a sense of comfort and balance that feels instinctive rather than learned. These forms have existed within the human consciousness for millennia, and I believe we are deeply interconnected with them. The appeal of the bud is not only visual, but emotional. It speaks to cycles of renewal that we recognise intuitively, even if we cannot fully articulate why.
As with much of my work, Bud is about refinement through subtraction. I aim to remove anything extraneous and focus only on those elements that capture the essence of the form. The result is a sculpture that feels calm, assured, and resolved. An object that invites contemplation rather than demands attention.
Bud is available across a wide range of scales, from intimate editions measuring 15 centimetres — small enough to be held in the hand — through to monumental works reaching three metres in height. Smaller editions are cast using the lost-wax process, while sculptures from 90 centimetres upwards are sand cast, a method that preserves the precision and integrity of the form at scale. Each size carries its own presence and purpose, whether placed within an interior setting on a white quartzite base, or installed outdoors on a sandstone or bespoke plinth.
Edition sizes reduce as the sculpture grows in scale: the smallest edition is limited to 195, the 30 centimetre version to 50, the 90 centimetre edition to 15, the 150 centimetre to 10, and the monumental three-metre sculpture to just three worldwide. Whether encountered privately or publicly, Bud stands as a quiet celebration of growth — a distilled expression of nature’s enduring intelligence.
